Mission:
1. Trouble Brewing
Location: Red Owl
Lt. Commander Gerald Reeves stood outside a residence that they had just raided in the Red Owl community. After a full days investigation that began early in the morning where a ship docked at the Starbase was found to be smuggling illegal narcotics and weapons. After personally interrogating the ships Captain for seven hours, he eventually confessed that his contact here was a Nausicaan by the name of Zern. Now Zern was a well known here as a business, but Reeves had suspected for quite sometime that he was nothing more than a thug who rose up and was using his legit business as a cover up for his illegal activities.
Having quickly obtained a search warrant security raided his home an hour ago, which led to the discovery quite a bit of evidence. Also word had gotten back to him, regarding the raid on his business on the Starbase as well. Jason stared at Zern who was handcuffed sitting in the chair, clearly pissed off as the security team was bagging and tagging anything illegal.
"Who is the one who told you these lies about me?" Zern demanded.
Taking a look around the room, Reeves couldn't help but to laugh. "Do you not see everything that we are gathering? This is far from a lie. You been caught red handed."
Zern thought briefly. "I have no idea how any of this stuff got in home."
"Just like you have no idea how we recovered narcotics and weapons in your place of business as well. If I were you, I would stop with the I don't know how this all got here excuse. And come up with a deal and let us know who were about to deliver all of this stuff to."
"You have been out to get me for a long time Commander," the Nausicaan responded with a snarl. "I believe you have a prejudice against my people. As if we can't be legitimate business owners."
"I have nothing against your people," Gerald responded as he picked up and looked over a very serious firearm. This was definitely illegal and could have caused quite a bit of damage to his people, if Zern had gotten a hold of it. He probably would have killed or seriously harmed a member of his team. Contrary to what you might believe, there is no one way out of this for you."
Zern looked around the room. "There's always a way out of situations like these."
"Sorry, but I have you dead to rights. Unless you have soan me vital information of course to share."
"I am not an informant."
Reeves almost burst out laughing. "Look here big fella. I wouldn't want you to break any moral codes of yours. But currently I have enough here to lock you away for well over a decade. And I have the feeling, if in a similar position those who you supply wouldn't have the same moral code as yourself." Reaving over he patted Zern on the top of his head.
Being patted on the head, like pet made Zern growl at his captured. This was the last thing he wanted to happen. But today simply wasn't his day. And unless he told on someone, all this time was going to come down on him. But surely him giving up information would get him killed. So, he would have to determine another way of getting out of this."
The Security Chief stared at him for a few more seconds and felt it best not to provoke his prisoner any further. Gerald had gotten his point across. There was a look in Zern's eyes that showed concern. Like so many others, he had caught and interrogated. There was a moment where the guilty party weighed all their options. Whether that option was finding a way to escape, giving up information for a lighter sentence or going down with all those charges. Zern was clearly going through that phase, he just had to come with a decision. "Take Mister Zern here down to the brig, while I finish up here."
Two enlisted security personnel lifted Zern by each arm to his feet and walked out of the home with the prisoner. Watching as they walked off, the Commander pulled out a tricorder and continued to do a further search of the house. His team had found most of his secret spots, but there was always an extra spot or two that got passed up on the first search. The way crime had been increasing in this sector, Starfleet had seriously been on the losing in of things. Today was a good sign that they were getting back on track.
Perhaps this was a sign of improvement on the Icarus at least. Cleaning up the rest of the sector would be secondary. And in all honesty that wasn't really his problem. His focus was this Starbase first and foremost. Gerald was sick and tired of the anarchy that had been taking place under his watch as security chief, which resulting from the current CO limiting what he could do to round up these criminals. He definitely would need to have a serious conversation with the Captain in the morning.
