| Physical Description | A craggy, surly looking man whose age is beginning to catch up with him, Jack Aeyers has seen the best and worst of a life in the fleet. His weather beaten skin reflects years of exposure to the elements, though his belly is starting to show an exposure to the comforts of life in command. Behind sharp features and a receding hairline is an easy smile and a look that could melt a tundra or create one. Far from his peak, his body is aged and he is nowhere near its peak. He now knows that a sharp word can be just as effective as a swift punch. |

Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Jack Aeyers doesn’t ask for authority, he embodies it. Two decades in the fleet have forged a man who values discipline, order, and duty above all else. He believes in the chain of command because someone has to make the hard calls, and he’s never once flinched from that weight. Once a lady's man, the charm’s still there; a grin when it suits him, or a compliment where it helps. But beneath it is a controlled force that can chill a room. Despite a difficult reputation, he's a different man with his young son. Playful, compassionate, kind. This is for closed doors only. He’s not interested in being liked. He's not interested in feelings at times, either. Sometimes he reminds you of the curmudgeonly uncle that can't be taken anywhere. He’s interested in results. What he demands is commitment, backbone, and precision. If you hold the line, he’ll back you without question. Fail your duty, and you’ll feel the full weight of his expectation. Jack Aeyers doesn’t posture. He leads. He doesn’t see himself as a hero. Just the man who gets the job done, no matter the cost. |

| Ambitions | Jack would love to be in the centre seat. His rivals are beginning to advance professionally in comparison, which is starting to get stuck in his craw. He wants the best for his son, Zach, though it may not always seem like it. Aeyers plans to raise his boy to be a career officer, come hell or high water. And he won't be raising a limp-wristed fool for a son. Jack would also like to win back the affections of his ex-partner Jenice, but knows this is probably impossible and potentially undesirable. Professionally, above all, he expects all of those under his charge to do their very best. He knows he is the gateway to that, and keeps himself as accountable as he does others. |

| Hobbies & Interests | Jack is a passionate baseball fan, despite this being a dead sport. Regardless of the lack of interest across the Federation, Jack has managed to be a founding member of a grass roots organisation that popularised baseball on Sagan Prime. Jack has begun developing an interest in child development since becoming a single dad. He often reads journals and the latest research to ensure that his son can be the best and brightest. |
| Personal History | John Oscar Aeyers was born in Neptune City, New Jersey on Earth in 2305 to his parents Craig and Margret Aeyers. Immediately, 'John' became 'Jack', a terror through and through. This was a quality that didn't leave him as he matured; Jack spent, or misspent, his childhood and teenage years getting mixed up in grand theft, wilderness explorations and solo unsanctioned adventures off-world. With his parents at their wits' end, the elder Aeyers attempted to scare their boy straight, hiring a pair of bounty hunters to track their wayward child down. Jack was found on Vulcan terrorising the local population and was taken into custody by the pair sent to find him. This couple comprised two former Starfleet Chief Petty Officers, a Tellarite husband and wife, who threw Jack into the cells at the back of their ship and fed him bread and water. From the confines of his cell, he watched the duo do their work. A young Aeyers, on the scenic route back to Earth, met criminals from all corners of the known galaxy, and talking with them, decided that he would prefer to be on the other side of the prison bars. After returning to Earth, and being placed under surveillance by his parents, Aeyers looked into a career as a bounty hunter, but instead found himself enticed by a recruiter for Starfleet. He was told he could get all the thrills and spills of bounty hunting, but with the luxury that only a Federation starship could provide. This fuelled Jack enough to propel him into his studies and eventually allowed him good enough grades to apply for entrance to Starfleet Academy at 16. Jack failed several times to gain his entrance, having gotten lucky on the third attempt because of an outbreak of a 'telepathic flu' that caused early onset Pon Farr in Vulcans on their homeworld. Because he was up against a group of three Vulcans, this meant he had no competition and he was admitted by default. Entering Starfleet Academy on Earth in 2322, he entered the security specialisation. In physical training, he performed well and impressed his instructors. Academically, his performance left a little to be desired, though tutoring and application brought his scores up over time. During his academy training, Jack was given the opportunity to train on the cadet training vessel USS Republic, which was taken for a tour of the Beta Quadrant with an aged captain and a staff full of cadets. After the captain developed appendicitis, an upperclassman was appointed as commander, and Jack was made the Chief Security Officer at barely nineteen years old. An accident involving the rerouting of power to the replicators caused the vessel to drift off course and enter Talarian space. Fighting to regain control, the cadets fought off a squadron of Talarian patrol ships and hurried home before a formal declaration of war could be declared against the Federation. As the Republic limped back to Federation space, the boyish Aeyers had to play sheriff, breaking up fistfights over simulator equipment, cases of exotic alcohol and a Trill belly dancer on a supply post in the Antares Sector. On return, Jack had written over forty misconduct reports, had slept a total of six hours and had talked down six mutinies — one of which he almost joined out of spite. His actions as peacemaker were mostly ignored by the Academy Board, who explicitly banned the Republic from leaving the Sol System ever again. Though, the Republic's elder statesman captain did put a note in his file, "displays a high intolerance for disorder, and a tolerance for stress. Potential quality officer material." A year later, Aeyers graduated Starfleet Academy, ready to go out into a galaxy in strife. Skirmishes and proxy wars were commonplace, and suffering was at no premium. Saying goodbye to his parents and pinning on his Ensign's insignia, Jack was assigned to the USS Reliant in 2326. Patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone, the assignment proved to be a sleepy one in a professional sense, but the birth of a fiery rivalry with a fellow officer, Ensign [redacted]. The two would compete for duties, women, attention and anything else they could. With no sign of tiring of the juvenile competition, the other officer transferred off the Reliant after earning a promotion. Jack had a first-hand view of the galaxy at its worst in his next assignment. Assigned as a security officer aboard the USS Cairo in 2328, Aeyers was aboard one of the first Federation ships that responded to the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor, after a groundswell of support for the Bajorans across the Federation. With permission from the Cardassians, the Cairo and the attached relief task force assisted small outposts before eventually making it to Bajor. What Jack and his shipmates saw were images one would never forget, and displayed the true brutality that the Cardassians could not hide. Aeyers found himself enraged by the injustice he saw, and was infuriated by Starfleet's neutral stance on the Cardassians. During ongoing relief efforts in the Kendra Province, Aeyers found his rebellious streak taking over and conspired with a number of fellow junior officers to take matters into their own hands. A small team snuck into the central Cardassian military base in the area and destroyed their power reactor and weapons cache. Throwing the Cardassian forces into a bloodthirsty rage, the Bajoran civilian resistance was blamed, and a massacre occurred. Forty-two Bajoran civilians were rounded up and indiscriminately murdered in front of Starfleet relief teams in a city square. Forced to witness this as a result of his actions, Aeyers was hardened and filled with hatred against an enemy he knew he could not fight. Aeyers was forced to stew in his hatred for over six months until the Cardassian Union ordered all Federation vessels to withdraw from Bajor. A week later, the Cardassians locked down their borders, and the Cairo spent another two years on the Cardassian frontier repelling incursions and attempts to seize territory. In 2332, Aeyers was promoted and taken off the Cardassian border for reassignment to the USS Apollo as Chief of Security. The Federation vessel was sent to work with the Klingon Empire to solidify ties between the two powers in technology exchange. Aeyers was chosen to study Klingon martial arts and warrior culture, and was sent a number of times to experience life on the Klingon homeworld, and was even able to train for an hour with Dahar Master Kor, although Jack got his arse beat in front of a number of colleagues and a Trill Federation ambassador. The incident humbled him and made him the butt of a few light-hearted jokes for the next few weeks aboard the Apollo. This assignment provided Aeyers with an opportunity to sharpen his skills as an ambassador and diplomat, while also allowing him to explore new societies, especially those annexed by the Klingons. During his time aboard the Apollo, Aeyers was tasked with assessing the feasibility of integrating Klingon cloaking technology into a Federation starship, though any further plans were abandoned out of respect to the Treaty of Algeron and suspicion that the now-elusive Romulans had caught wind of the plan. In 2334, the USS Apollo was decommissioned and her crew disbanded. The vessel's first officer, Greg Quinn, was assigned to establish an outpost on Relva VII. Quinn handpicked Aeyers to be his first officer, bringing a promotion to Lieutenant. The two officers oversaw the construction and operation of the starbase for a further two years, and established an academy training program on the outpost. Aeyers looked to Quinn as a mentor, despite the elder officer praising Aeyers' rival, which caused friction. Aeyers was later promoted to Lieutenant Commander and reassigned to the USS Crazy Horse as first officer. This assignment brought Aeyers back to the Cardassian Border, a place he didn't relish being. His other assignments had taken him away from the Occupation, though his bitterness and resentment toward the Cardassians continued. The assignment brought him into contact with the Cardassians, who engaged in many skirmishes and were attempting to annex systems and establish military infrastructure on neutral or Federation-owned worlds. He had spent years quietly knowing blood was on his hands, though the personal torture had allowed him to understand the importance of the chain of command, knowing when to act and the importance of personal accountability. In 2338, these convictions tore him between his duty and values, the assignment requiring him to support a black ops team who were investigating the Cardassians' use of theta-band carrier waves. This team was led by his rival from Aeyers' days on the Reliant, [redacted], who'd somehow made captain before Aeyers had even become a first officer. Aeyers was sceptical of the team's methods, though he carried out his duties despite concerns for the Bajorans living in the area of operations. Sure enough, the mission ended in civilian bloodshed. A furious Aeyers took a leave of absence. It taught Aeyers, again, that Starfleet's work was often ugly, and rarely victimless. Taking an extended vacation to Earth, Aeyers rekindled a relationship with Jenice Phillips, a woman that he and his rival had vied for as younger men. Jack was enamoured with the young woman — she was beautiful, strong and intelligent — a perfect foil for the strong-willed and sometimes difficult Aeyers. Offered a post as the aide-de-camp to the Federation Defence Secretary in Paris, Aeyers stayed on Earth and Jenice fell pregnant with Aeyers' child. The pair lived in Paris for a short while before the Defence Secretary was stood down in a change of government. Jenice left Jack soon after they had a stupid argument. She left to marry a famous scientist, and in one final insult, left Jack to raise his infant son. It left Jack resentful, but determined to raise his boy the best he could. Jack was initially offered the first officer's posting on the USS Orion, though was assigned to Starbase Icarus as the outpost executive officer to allow him to raise his son. Aeyers' experience with the Cardassians proved instrumental in the establishment of Starbase Icarus, taking him to the largest and most important Starbases in the Federation. |
